Electric Fly Swatter
67What is this swatter?
An electric fly swatter is shaped like a badminton or tennis racquet and is used specifically for killing flies, mosquitoes and other flying insects.
The main advantage of having an electric fly zapper is the ease of use. Before you had to wait for the fly to land on a surface and then carefully approach it and whack it with your plastic fly swatter. But now, with the invention of the electric fly swatter, all you need to do is locate the fly, take a swing at it and kill it. When you make contact with the fly you electrocute it, killing it instantly.
Electronic fly swatters make the whole process of catching and killing a fly so much easier.
The Top 5 advantages of using an electric fly zapper.
1. Ease of use –It’s much easier than using a traditional fly swatter to kill flies.
2. Environmentally friendly – Using an electronic fly swatter is a much better option that spraying the air around you with fly spray, or laying poison. Fly spray can be inhaled by humans, and leave an unpleasant smell in the air around you.
3. No mess – Before when you use a traditional fly swat, often when you killed the fly you left a nasty mess on the kitchen bench, or on the window sill, but using an electronic fly swatter you leave next to no mess when you kill the fly on your swatter.
4. Affordable – These types of fly swatters are often relatively cheap and affordable. The only added costs are the batteries used to power the swatter. Remember, swatters with a lower voltage output will make the batteries last longer than a higher voltage swatter.
5. Portable – You can take your swatter anywhere in the house, which is very useful if you have flies roaming throughout your house.
Some safety tips to remember:
As with most electronic items, there are some guidelines you should follow when operating an electric fly zapper.
These include:
1) Keep out of the reach of children:
Pretty self explanatory, if you have younger children in the house make sure that they cannot reach it, as they might start playing with it an hurt themselves.
2) Make sure it’s turned off when you’re not using it:
If you’re not keeping away flies or mosquitoes then just turn it. Not only will you save the batteries, but you will prevent any accidents that might occur.
3) Keep away from areas or objects that are dangerous. These include highly flammable objects, electrical machinery and water.
4) Don’t touch the wire – Be careful not to touch the wire which the electric current flows through – especially if it’s still turned on. I accidentally touched the wire once, and I got a nasty shock. So be careful.
Buying an electric fly swatter
If you have decided to buy an electronic fly swatter, there are a few other aspects that you need to consider.
Price – The more expensive something is, does not necessarily mean that it is of a better quality. The swatter I’m using now is relatively cheap and it works like a charm. Look around, and compare prices so you get the best swatter for your money.
Handling and Design – check out the design before finalising your purchase. Is it easy to manoeuvre? Does it feel easy and comfortable to hold?
Voltage - check the voltage of your fly swatter. Some swatters have a voltage of 1500 volts, which is more than enough to kill a fly. If you find a swatter with less voltage don’t think it is of worse quality. You can kill a fly easily with much less voltage than 1500.
